About this soft-dried red cherry
A sweet cherry — черешня, distinct from the sour-sweet Shpanka duke cherry elsewhere in the range — soft-dried so it keeps some give rather than drying out hard. Deep red to near-black, glossy, and the flavour stays close to fresh: sweet with just enough tartness to keep it interesting. No sugar added. Sulphur dioxide (E220) is used as a preservative during drying. Contains sulphites.
Stir it into salads, muesli or granola, fold it into baking, or add it to a mix of nuts and dried fruit. It keeps well, so it is easy to have on hand year-round.
The cherries are pitted before drying, a slower, more labour-intensive step than drying them whole, but one that makes them easier to use straight from the bag. Sourced from the same Armenian orchards that supply our Shpanka, harvested a few weeks apart as the two varieties ripen at slightly different times.
