About this dried pear
Pears grown in Armenia and left to ripen fully before drying, so the sweetness is the fruit’s own rather than anything added — the sugars simply concentrate the way they do in a very ripe pear.
Dried whole and stem-on, the texture stays soft rather than leathery, with a dense, honeyed sweetness and a faint grain running through the flesh. No sugar or colouring added. Sulphur dioxide (E220) is used as a preservative during drying. Contains sulphites.
Good on its own with tea or coffee in place of a sweet, or stirred into porridge, desserts or baking.
The stem is left on deliberately, both for the traditional look on a table and as a sign that each pear is dried whole rather than pressed from offcuts. A handful travels well in a bag or a desk drawer, and makes a simple, natural gift on its own or alongside other dried fruit.
